september 25, 2001.
Last night I called up Morgan & we chatted for about an hour. During this talk, I think she summed up yesterday's dilemma rather well: "that sucks." (It's better if you say it in a thick East Coast accent, much like "this show sucks!") Really, that's as far as it needs to go. I'm doing the reading; they're not; that sucks. This is where self-pity comes to die.

The fall weather continues to baffle & annoy the locals as we steam into the rainy season. Every day has been cloudy and moist, what varies is the temperature. In the mornings it's long-sleeves-and-pants chilly (not to mention clammy), but by the time noon rolls around it's sticky & uncomfortably hot. It drives me frigging crazy: on days like today when I leave the house at 9 a.m. and return at 9 p.m., all I can do is stash several different pieces of clothing in my bag and hope for the best. This is also the first conversational topic when two people meet by chance in Wolfville.
O Canada. We are a nation with little history & much weather.

Today went rather well. I was in group meetings from 9:30 - 12:45 this morning, prompting me to begin what I euphemistically termed an "involuntary fast." Fortunately I was able to sprint home for 10 minutes to grab a lunch before class convened at 1:30. Dinner was conducted in much the same manner, only there was a Simpsons episode on in the background that time. I don't enjoy eating by myself, but at least I can babysit myself with my favourite animated family.
I think this afternoon was my favourite class yet: we watched clips of "Cinderella," "The Little Mermaid II," "Pocahontas," "The World Is Not Enough" & "Billy Eliot" and then discussed role stereotypes and media influence. Some class members were a little pissed off that we kept 'picking' on Disney; my biggest beef was that the writing in everything but "Billy Eliot" was so frigging bad. During "The Little Mermaid II," I actually found myself hoping that Neptune would decide to sacrifice the baby to the shark enemy, just to liven things up. I think it was a mistake to share this opinion with the class, however. I can just kiss the babysitting jobs goodbye.
