june 21, 2001. from today's globe & mail: Flocks of anonymous emails have been swooping across the Internet for weeks, promoting a hand-rolled voluntary power blackout aimed at fostering conservation, reports the Sacramento Bee. The messages urge people everywhere to turn out their lights and unplug what they can from 7 to 10 p.m. today, to create a dip in energy use that would roll across time zones. The phrase "Roll your own blackout" was coined by David Aragon, an engineer is Berkley, Calif.
